-Lobbying for Immigration Reform Now-
Chicago, IL-Advocates for immigration reform will hold a press
conference on Sunday, June 28th, at 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe
Mission, 3442 W. 26th St. to announce the continuing lobbying for
immigration reform.
This Sunday at 6:00pm a group of activists and members of the
community will depart to Washington D.C. with the mission of bringing
testimonies to the legislators in an effort to persuade them to
support immigration reform for the 12 million undocumented people who
live in the shadows.
The group will lobby on Monday and Tuesday, with the objective to
continue to pressure the House of Representatives and to raise
awareness in Congressmen Lupisqui, Melissa Bean, and Mark Steeve Kirk
that an immigration reform is needed now.
The group will also speak with Senator Durbin’s office to give the
message of support with the Dream Act, but they will inform Durbin’s
office that a comprehensive immigration reform for the 12 million
undocumented immigrants who are suf
fering is vital.
“We urge everyone to continue to pressure President Barrack Obama, the
Senate, and the House of Representatives in order to obtain an
immigration reform that will include the 12 million undocumented
immigrants in the U.S.”, said Father Jose Landaverde, pastor of Our
Lady of Guadalupe Mission.
What: A press conference, to announce the continuing lobbying for
immigration reform.
When and Where: Sunday, June 28th.2:00 p.m. Press conference –
Our Lady of Guadalupe Mission, 3442 W. 26th St.Chicago IL 60623
Who: Advocates for immigration reform.
History:
At least 12 million immigrants have not been able, under the current
system, to obtain legal permits to live and work in the United States,
and each day immigration reform is delayed, hundreds more try to enter
the country and are victimized by smugglers and traffickers.
And when they finally are in the United States, unscrupulous employers
take advantage of them and exploit them to obtain higher profits than
they would normally obtain by hiring other workers, and many times
even use them as scabs and put them against other workers based on
their irregular immigration status.
