To all Immigrant Rights Activists:

All is ready in Madison for this year’s May Day rally! However since last Thursday, the local radio La Movida, the only 24/7 Spanish language radio station, has been announcing the Milwaukee rally and not the rally in Madison. Both rallies in Wisconsin are happening in friendly solidarity with each other as what we need is more cities, more rallies, and more strength.

The reasons behind the radio’s actions are unknown to the main organizers of both rallies. Unfortunately, this lack of informing about the Madison Rally is creating confusion and a sense of division between both rallies that does not reflect the reality nor the spirit of the day.

It is time, nationally, we start asking all media, especially Spanish Language Media to at least inform of the events happening in the country, highlighting local events.

For that reason, we the Immigrant Workers Union are asking all activists and organizations to take a minute of your time and send an email to Luis Montoto asking to include the Madison Rally details in his announcements.

His email is luis.m...@lamovidaradio.com and feel free to copy us in...@uniondetrabajadores.org

And a suggested message would be:

Dear Luis Montoto,

I recently learned that your radio station is announcing selected rallies for May Day, neglecting your city's local rally organized by the Immigrant Workers Union and 30 plus other organizations. Whatever your reasons for not doing this, I believe that you should at least inform people of the local rally alongside all of the other rallies taking place that day.

Since 2006 there has been a national movement that includes national, state and local organizations and coalitions, all in the aim to help, advocate and obtain immigration reform.

It is important that everybody in the community do their part or at least do not stand in the way of efforts that hundreds or thousands of activists are putting together to make of 2009 the year of the change, the reform and the end of suffering for our communities.

I encourage you to do the right thing and use your radio to inform the community about the events happening in their community.

Sincerely,

Your Name here

A minute of your time NOW will make a difference!

In solidarity,

Alex Gillis
Immigrant Workers Union
