Immigrant Solidarity Dupage announces community forum with Immigrant Rights Activist Father Jose Landaverde, Saturday, July 18 at 2 p.m. at the Glenside Public Library, 25 East Fullerton, Glendale Heights. Father Landaverde, Jesus Vargas and the other activists of the Mission, located in Little Village, have been on the front lines of the struggle for immigrant rights aiding and assisting immigrants who have been taken into custody by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E.) and their families, rejecting the mass firings of immigrant workers, denouncing anti-immigrant politicians and policy and mobilizing nationally for a legalization for immigrant workers in the United States.
Immigrant Solidarity Dupage in its mission to organize, educate and unite the community around the issues of the growing Latino community in Dupage County presents Father Landaverde in times of mass firings, racial profiling by police and economic crisis for many in the Latino community in Dupage due in part to recent changes in federal immigration policy such as the mandatory use of the E-Verify program for many employers and increased collaboration between local police departments and I.C.E.
Father Landaverde in his first visit to Dupage will talk about the politics of the deportation process that continues to affect many in the Latino community, what immigrant workers and their families can do to prevent from being detained and will give a report on the national struggle against anti-immigrant legislation and for a legalization for the 12 million immigrant workers and their families that is needed now more than ever.
