May Day with a sense of urgency!
As long as there are workers and labor organizations, May Day will be celebrated as the International Workers Day.
In USA, the immigrant movement brought back May Day in 2006 to join the international labor movement again.
This year as the crisis deepens, and the living conditions of millions worsen, millions of people worldwide are demanding not to fund the crisis created by the big banks and corporations. In the last weeks, workers across the nation have been marching with banners that read "Bail Out The Workers, Not the Banks".
Locally in Madison and Dane County, the crisis is already affecting thousands of immigrants, workers and poor families. Layoffs, cuts in social services, massive foreclosures and the recent increase of the Bus Fare are only a few examples of how we, the workers, are suffering the effects of the crisis.
These issues, in addition, add to the already fragile situation of thousands of immigrant families, harassed daily by Sheriff Mahoney's ICE collaboration policies and an already limited budget for low income families.
It is time to stop these social attacks and demand our rights!!!! We invite YOU to join the May Day Rally: March for the poor, immigrants & workers.
We demand!
* Passage of the Employee Free Choice Act * Universal health care now * Mandatory paid sick leave * A living wage * Halt foreclosures and evictions * Increased funding for Section 8 housing * Free university tuition for low-income students * No increase in bus fares * A living wage for W-2 workers * Real funding for public schools * Immigrant access to identification and drivers licenses * Amnesty for immigrant workers * Stop sheriff notification to ICE * No firings for Social Security no match letters.
