Nathalie Contreras (310)890-5566, Celina Benítez (213)700-2460

July 18, 2009

WHO:         The workers of the companies - Overhill Farms, American Apparel, Farmer Johns, and others – supported by the Southern California Immigration Coalition (SCIC)

WHAT:         Press Conference to announce the call by workers to march to the Downtown Federal Building to demand that the Obama administration stop the rampant I-9 audits and E-Verify resulting in the terminations of tens of thousands of workers.

   WHEN:         Tuesday, July 21st, 2009 at 5:00pm.

WHERE:         2727 E. Vernon Ave, Vernon, CA 90058.

Workers from Overhill Farms, American Apparel, Farmer Johns, and others announce a press conference scheduled for Tuesday, July 21st, 2009 to take place at 5:00pm in front of the company Overhill Farms, located at 2727 E. Vernon Ave., Vernon, CA 90058.  Recent attacks on immigrant workers via the use of I-9 audits and the use of E-Verify are a clear attack on all workers across the country (documented or not). These actions are evidence of a broken immigration system that demands attention.  The workers will march on Wednesday, July 29th, 2009 and rally on Saturday, August 1st, 2009 to demand that the Obama administration stop the rampant I-9 audits and use of E-Verify resulting in the termination of tens of thousands of workers across the country.

The Southern California Immigration Coalition in support of the workers calls on all immigrant rights organizations, unions, churches, and coalitions to join the march in unity and demand an immediate end to the electronic raids.  President Obama counted on the Latino vote promising immigration reform.  Instead, the Latino community is confronted with fierce repression in their workplaces.
