Immigrants Rights’ Advocates March to
Hold President Obama Accountable
CHICAGO, IL—Advocates for immigration reform will hold a press conference on Thursday, June 18th, at 11:00 am, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Mission, 3442 W. 26th Street, to urge President Obama to fulfill his election promise for comprehensive immigration reform and to end the deportations. A march will follow at 1:30 pm to the Broadview Detention Center, 1930 Beach Street, culminating in a rally and overnight vigil.
Protestors are demanding national immigration reform that unites families, protects workers, and puts an end to the ICE raids. The White House continues to postpone a meeting between President Obama and congressional leaders to move forward with legislation. Advocates for legalization of undocumented workers went to see President Obama address this issue with the same vigor and direction that he is giving to the national health reform agenda. Our nation needs to pass just and humane immigration reform that brings immigrants within the law, offers opportunities for safe future migration, protects all workers, and helps immigrants fully integrate into American society.
