Hi all,

It was nice seeing you all again, and thank you so much for coming out.  As I mentioned, the Board of Elections has agreed to place poll inspectors with particular language skills in certain neighborhoods.  As you may know, political parties get first dibs in filling poll inspector positions.  However, not all positions get filled due to a variety of reasons.  For positions that remain vacant, the Board can take the initiative and fill those spots.  They have agreed to first consider applications submitted by AALDEF.

If you know of individuals who are a) registered with a political party (Republican or Democrat); and b) fluent in a South Asian language – Bangla, Punjabi, Urdu, Hindi, etc, please ask them to fill out the attached application.  In the “source” box under “for borough office use only”, they should put down AALDEF-SEVA, AALDEF-Chhaya, so that the Board knows that the application is coming from our organizations, and will theoretically prioritize it.

You should send the completed applications to Rosanna Kostamoulas Rahmouni and Rachel Knipel at the Board of Elections, 32 Broadway, because they will be the ones processing them.  The deadline for receiving apps is August 20th.  Even if we can’t have a good list for the Primaries, it would be good to at least get a head start for the General Election.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Best,

Julia
