Paul and Jennifer Bordner
recently went on a cruise. Kyler and Kase spent the week with
grandparents, Marsha and Larry Mckneely. Dusty and Mary Dell Rhoades recently went on a week long
cruise. Franklin Crain, John Altizer, Shane
Altizer went quail hunting. It seems they picked up more "stickers"
than quail. Congratulations to Mickey and Coney
Hanley on the birth of their beautiful daughter, Payton Ann. Payton
weighed seven pounds and two ounces. She was born on March 1. That
just happened to be her cousin, Lynda Randolph's, birthday. Last
Friday evening Jane Randolph, Vickie Parr, Valerie McGuire, Mayzelle Bagley and
Cyndi Suggs went to Horseshoe Bay to the comedy play "Nunsense". They had
lots of laughs and a fun evening. Danny and Janiece Duggan had Ryan,
Lacy and Payton visiting last weekend. They along with Tommy, Kaci, Talli
and Tori Morrison went to a wedding in Waco. Sandra Crain helped Bernice
Kuykendall celebrate her birthday. She had family and friends from
Brownwood visit and they all gathered at Sandra's. Maude Ann and Kenneth
Kuykendall were out of town last week.
Becky,
Jeff and Ashley Cockrum were given a cabinet grand piano recently and spent a
half a day moving it down one step, 15 miles east in a stock trailer, and then
up two steps. Those heavy old pianos come with wheels but the sheer weight
of the things, and their limited weight distribution precludes them
from acually being rolled, so as we pushed, we were lifting it as well to get it
to MOVE. I had remembered this from the last time I participated in the
moving of a big old piano very clearly and this time was no different and
exactly as bad as I had remembered. It was given to us by some friends who
are moving and didn't want to have to move it and decided to purchase a new
piano and have it delivered. I can understand that! However, it is
here and as I can hear Ashley working her way through Beethovan's Moonlight
Sonata (which is one of my all time favorites) as I'm writing the
Cherokee News, the effort was well worth it. I enjoy playing Christmas
songs on a piano, year round, I'll have to see if I can remember how to play any
of them.

Funeral services
were held for Polly Maddox on Tuesday at the Baptist Church. Polly was a
wonderful friend and neighbor. She will certainly be missed in
Cherokee.
Funeral Services were held last week for W.H. (Mac)
McLeod in Panhandle, Texas. Mac was Eloyse Gray's baby brother. He
was born in Pontotoc on Dec. 30, 1912. He married Beulah Holloway in
Valley Springs in 1934. She preceded him in death. We extend our
sympathy to the Gray family.
These kind words are from Nazanin Wisdom:
You all know about the house we were renting
being sold and the situation my family has been struggling with. It has been
devastating for Roger and I. Our kids have been overwhelmed with heart ache. We
have relentlessly been trying to figure out anything...anywhere to take our
family. Knowing whatever we have to do, we would all have to make sacrifices
that will change what we know life to be. Roger and I are not the only ones who
have been affected by this.
Our entire community has been
doing everything possible do to help our family. This little town of Cherokee,
Texas is not full of people. We don't have to spend any time choosing a
restaurant for dinner or which store to shop at. Cherokee, Texas is full of the
most caring and loving people that anyone will ever meet. From the day we were
informed we had to move, EVERYWHERE we've gone people ask if we've found a house
yet. Last week I went into Cherokee Grocery Store and a woman asked that very
question. I mentioned our only prospect being San Saba. She said, "The whole
town is looking for ya'll a place. Sue Rhodes added, "We sure don't want to lose
your family here. We all love your boys and love having them in church." I
absolutely melted.
My family and I want to thank everyone
here in Cherokee for all help and support. Your love helped us to be patient for
God to reveal the plan he has for us. What seemed to be a tragedy is (possibly)
going to result with us OWNING OUR OWN HOME!!! We will keep praying. Whatever
happens we will be OK, Cherokee has made us certain of that. Thank you all.
Love,
The Wisdom Family
