The recent rain has certainly been wonderful.  It's nice to see that winter grass beginning to grow finally!  Did anyone in Cherokee have a pecan crop this year?  My trees did quite poorly.  Hopefully this year will be better.
The New Years Party hosted by the Austermanns was a HUGE success!  It was the perfect way to bring in 2007.  Singles and a few couples of all ages were in attendance and everyone enjoyed visiting, relaxing, playing games and snacking from the table filled to overflowing with tantalizing temptations.
Matt Reyes was at the party for a good while and it was really good to see Matt and hear all about his Iraqi adventures knowing that he was safe!   For those who don't yet know him, Matt is the grandson of Ray and Nancy Rawls and the great-grandson of Hilly and Lovie Walker.  Matt Reyes was in a helicopter crash in Iraq and suffered multiple fractures and other extensive injuries.  Let's all keep Matt in our prayers - he still has a lot of recovering to do and will have lots of rehab.  Anyone who would like to help the family with expenses of getting to and from doctor visits and other associated costs, please contact Susan Bryles at Arrowhead Bank.
Wednesday night is Family Night at the Baptist Church in Cherokee.  Church service starts at 6:30 p.m.  Please join us for a chili supper.  Bring a friend!
Sidonne Thornton is a proud new grandma!  William was born at 9:38 on Dec. 29.  He weighed 6 lbs. 15 oz. and was 20 inches long.  He's beautiful.  The proud parents are Seth and Melanie Thornton.
Danny and Janiece Duggan had a houseful for the holidays.  Ryan and his family Laci and Payton were there Tommy and Kaci and girls Talli and Tori of course were there and Janiece's friend Rose from Waco came also.
Kacey Dobbs has been in town during the holiday break from college.  Tifanee and Natasia Jackson are visiting grandparents and their brother in Abilene.  Sheri and Ralph Madill have been in Oklahoma, Missouri and Arkansas for the holidays.  Sheri's dad is still in critical condition.  Delton and Valerie McGuire attended their son, Travis' graduation from Abilene Christian University.  Doug and Cyndi Suggs had an early Christmas with family.  Tiffany, Monica, Samas, Jeremy and Payton came.  Sydnie and Payton will be visiting during New Years.
Flora Bowden had family visit during the holidays.  Her granddaughter, Stephanie, was able to visit.  She is still recovering from the car accident and surgery on her leg.  Flora reports she is doing well.
Mozelle Boultinghouse spent time with family in Marble Falls during the holidays.
Bernice Kuykendall has had more than one Christmas dinner!  She spent time with her daughter Linda, her husband, children and grandchildren and other family members  Then later she had another Christmas with Sandra, Franklin and Ty.
Danny Duggan's mother and dad were in Cherokee recently visiting.  They live in Waco.  Also Ryan, Lacey and daughter Payton were visiting them.  Doug and Cyndi Suggs went to Houston to visit some friends from China.  They were treated to real Chineese food!  While in Houston they visited with their children and grandchildren.  They brought Payton and Sydnie back with them for a few days.
Keri and Keith Davis and girls had visitors recently.  Keri's brother, sister-in-law and niece and nephew from Washington state were here for a few days.  John and Margie Clark had lots of family in over the holidays.  Margie said she thought it was enough company for three years!  Johnnie Webb went to see Sam again this week end.
Joyce, Randy and Brandon Capps from Lampasas spent Christmas day and night with Maybelle and Gary Ray. Barbara Maddox, Sue Rhoades and Lynda Randolph were in Kerrville last week visiting with Jane Randolph.  John Altizer spent Sunday and Monday in the Heart Hospital in Austin.  He got a good report and was sent home.  LaVoyce Sellman will start her cancer treatment this week in Fort Worth.  She said with all it is going to cost her she aught to get a face lift with it!
The latest report on Byars Walters is very good.  His treatment did not make him sick this month.  He seems to be doing much better.  Some of the girls from Cherokee Home for Children took part in the Operation Orphans Deer Hunt.  Joe and Alicejoy Taylor went along with the girls.  This is an annual event.
