Cherokee welcomes Robert Berlin who purchased the lovely stone house across from the Methodist Church in Cherokee.  Robert is originally from Odessa, Texas and attended Texas Tech, served in the Army, studied journalism and history at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and earned his master's degree in counseling psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia and works as a licensed professional counselor at the Texas Youth Commission's John Shero State Juvenile Correctional Facility.  As a counselor, Robert specializes in working with addiction and trauma recovery in adolescents and adults.
Cherokee also welcomes Ji-Tae (pronounced Gee-tay) who is a foreign exchange student who will be residing with Robert and will be attending Cherokee High School until December 2007 when he will return home and begin the 10th grade.  Ji-Tae is 15 years old and is from Puson, South Korea, where he lives with his mother, father, and 14 year old brother.  Ji-Tae's father works as an international trade specialist in China and Korea and his mother works at home caring for the boys.  Ji-Tae is in the 9th grade and he says he is enjoying being in a small town.  His hometown of Puson has a population of more than four million people!
Ji-Tae is accustomed to waking up at 4:00am to prepare for school and not going to bed until after midnight because he gets home late and then must finish his homework.  Ji-Tae enjoys playing the piano, swimming and playing soccer.  He says that so far, his best friend is Josh because Josh has helped him find his classes and adjust to Cherokee High School.  He is also enjoying friendships with Roy, Hector and Eddie and looks forward to getting to know more students over the coming weeks.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Chris Hazel on the birth of their son, Ty.  Ty is the grandson of Mike and Louise Hazel.  Coney Hanley was honored with a baby shower Sunday afternoon at the home of Jennifer Bordner.  There was a large crowd.  I think Mickey is going to have to add a room on to the house to put all the gifts. Velma Gauny visited in Cherokee Sunday.  She attended Coney's baby shower.  Mr. and Mrs. Bob Johnson from Minnesota spent the week with Mr. and Mrs. Avery Johnson.  Bob is Avery's brother.  It was great to see Charles Perry at church Sunday.  He really looks great.   Roy McCown spent several days in the Llano Hospital.  Joyce reported that he is home and doing better.
Until next week, that's the Cherokee News!  If you have a news item to submit, please send it to ne...@cherokeetexas.com.
