Jeff and Ashley Cockrum had an End of Summer Bash and Swimming Party over at Larry and Audrey Larbalestrier's this past Friday evening.  They had a real good time with their friends at Larry and Audrey's tropical paradise pool!
On Wednesday evening at the Baptist Church, Kristein Perry, Curt McNeely, Sidonie Thornton and Tom Slavin gave a powerpoint presentation on their trip to the Czech Republic.  It was incredible to hear how most of the population there, due to the long time communist rule, does not have any idea of what Christianity, or any religion, is all about.  They told us that the weather there is like the weather here-  very hot -and that no ice cubes could be located.  Wow!
Truly,  a world away and a very different culture from our own.  We are all so very fortunate.  We are also fortunate to have such wonderful envoys as this group of people who went to the Czech Republic to do some very important introductory work!
Wade Scott Smith, Skylar Wade Smith, Wayne Brook Smith and Kristoffer Scott Smith from Virginia Beach visited in Cherokee Saturday.  Wade and Wayne are the sons of Brook Smith.  Their grandparents were S.L. and Noble Lee Smith.  They enjoyed visiting the grocery store.  Grandma Lillie Smith used to take them to the grocery store for candy when they were children.  We hope they come back to see us soon.
Update on Byars Walters:  Byars is talking a little better, but is still very weak. He will be moving to the Stockdale Nursing Center Wednesday, August 16. The address is 300 Salmon, Stockdale, TX 78160, phone # 830-996-3721. If anyone calls for him they will take the phone to him.  They have church services there every Sunday morning at 9:00 and someone from the church goes by there every day. He is anxious to get moved.
Curt McKneely had surgery in Austin last week.  He is home and doing great.  Jane Randolph has been in Frisco visiting Sabra and David Roberts. If you see Wayland Perry, be sure and ask about his bee adventure.
Congratulations to Lisa Sloan.  Lisa graduated from Killeen Police Academy last Friday.  Lisa's Dad, Kenneth Dufner was in the Brownwood Hospital and was not able to go.  They were going to video the graduation for him.
Congratulations also to Walt and Kecha Broyles on the birth of their daughter Kimbrea Nichole!  I know that Paul and Sherry are enjoying their new granddaughter!
We would like to welcome Ken and Clara Thomson to the community.  They purchased the Mike Cason Ranch out on the Valley Springs Road.  Welcome Ken and Clara!
Funeral Services for Roger Kinzler was held in Brownwood on Wednesday.  Roger was killed in an automobile accident.  Roger and Myrna were houseparents at the Cherokee Home a few years back.  The family had lots of friends in Cherokee.  We extend our sympathy to the Kinzler family.  Wanda Rhoades Heweitt from San Antonio visited Dusty and MaryDell Rhoades, Sue Rhoades and Tracy, Kendall and Brady Johnson last week.

The recent rain has certainly been a blessing!
The lowest price gas spotted this past week was at Seward Junction which had regular unleaded for $2.39 while at the HEB in Burnet it was priced at $2.43.  Today on Mays Street (the South end)  in Round Rock I spotted regular unleaded for $2.33 so if you're going to be shopping in the Round Rock area- be sure to fill up.
Saturday September 30 is Cherokee Day!  The Cherokee Home for Children will be having it's big auction, which benefits the children, and usually goes on all day.  They always have some really good food available for auction goers as well.  Everyone come out and visit with old friends, meet some new one and chances are you'll find that one (or several) thing that you've been looking for or needing for your home or garden.

The following are some news items that I was sent a couple of weeks ago that I didn't spot in my inbox until just the other day:   It was good to see Sam Center and Mary Low back in church Sunday.  They both seem to be doing great.  Paul Jenschke, son-in-law of Charles and Nettie Jean Randolph left for Iraq last Sunday.  Jerry Fry is doing well after his surgery.  Sammy Gray was honored with a surprise birthday party recently at the home of Shirley and Marty Gray.  My apologies to everyone for these late news relays.  Sometimes I don't receive any email for days and then it all seems to pour in at once and I have trouble sorting through it all.
