The Cherokee Project Graduation Senior Roping is
coming up this Saturday, April 28th, so be sure to mark your calendar! The
event will be held at the Paul Broyles Arena 2.3 miles East of Cherokee on FM
501. Sign up is at 9:30am and Roping begins at 11:00am. Draw 5
partners for $100 a man, Healers capped at #5, Headers open, BBQ Lunch, Bring
lawn chairs and visit! For more information call 325-622-4586. This
event is being sponsored by Jordan Cattle Auction. If any updates or
additional information is received, it will be located placed on the
Cherokee, Texas website up until the day of the event.
The PTC will have a portrait fundraiser on
Saturday, May 5th, from 12:00 to 5:00 pm in the school gym and again on Sunday,
May 6th, from 12:00 to 2:00. You may email Dixon or Rita to set up a time
if you have conflicts; otherwise, just show up in your best portrait
attire. Pictures will be $6.00 per sheet whether it’s 1 - 8x10, 2 - 5x7,
or 4 – 4x6 pictures on a sheet. We will upload them to Walmart and Dixon
will pick them up and bring them back to school. We will have a tv hooked
up to the camera so you will be able to get the “perfect” picture. You can

Copperas Cove Church of Christ came to Cherokee Home for Children last Saturday
and had a Fish Fry and Picnic for the children and Staff. They have been
doing this annually for about 35 years. The food was good and there was
lots of fun and fellowship. Danny and Janiece Duggan left for Ohio last
Sunday to see their new grandson. Payton Suggs, Sydnie Suggs and friend
Taylor were in Cherokee again last week-end visiting Grandma and Grandpa Suggs
(Doug and Cyndi Suggs)
Kenneth and Maude Ann Kuykendall hosted the Cherokee
Church of Christ at their home last Sunday evening for fun, food and
fellowship. Everyone had a great time.
The CIA from the Baptist Church visited the
patients in Care Inn Nursing Home in Llano on Sunday.
The annual
Broyles reunion was held Saturday, April 21st at the Cherokee school
cafeteria. Jackie, Charlene Brister and gang fried catfish for 46
cousins. Ben L. Broyles brought photos and information he gathered in
Calhoun County Alabama of the great grandfather George Broyles and his
family. George Broyles started a Methodist church there. George, his
wife Rosana and their children are buried in a cemetery near by. Kimbrea
Broyles, daughter of Walt and Kecha Broyles was the youngest Broyles in
attendance. Sue and Robert Broyles have been in Washington D.C. on a
business/sight seeing trip.
MaryDell Rhoades, Sue Rhoades, Tracy and Kendall
Johnson attended the Relay for Life in San Saba last Friday night. Mary
Dell, Tracy and Kendall walked on the elementary team. They walked in
honor of Donna Blossman. It was great to visit with Donna and Jack at the
relay.
Tracy and Kendall Johnson, Richard Randolph,
Lynda Randolph and Matthew attended a birthday party for Caroline Oestreich in
Llano Saturday morning. Kristi Ball and girls from Lampasas also
attended. Miss Caroline is three years old. Harold and Keith
Johanson from LaVernia and friends from Stockdale had lunch at Cherokee Grocery
last Saturday. It is always nice to see Harold. Ed and Geneva Brawn
visited in Cherokee last week. They are the parents of Jack Brawn.
Jack and Tammy have bought the Law home. Ed and Geneva have bought the
Slaughter home. We wish to welcome each family to Cherokee.
Tommy Morrison's grandmother fell and injured her
shoulder but is doing better now. Joe Fry of Marble Falls is in the Seton
Hospital in Austin. Joe is the father of David Fry. Please keep this
family in your prayers.
Felipe Gurrola had surgery at the Austin Heart
Hospital last week. He is back home and he is doing really well.
Amy Thaxton Cromberg passed away in San Angelo last week. Amy's
burial was in Amarillo. We extend our sympathy to Kay Allison and
family.
