Children in Action of Cherokee First Baptist Church had their 2nd Annual Silent Auction on December 2nd and 3rd.  Items were donated by businesses of Llano, San Saba and Cherokee and by individuals. There was a nice variety including a Precious Moments Nativity Scene for the yard, hand crocheted afghan, homemade pies, preserves, luggage, tools, rustic decor, gift certificates ...etc.  Thanks to the many that donated items and to the ones who purchased the items. With your help the auction raised $2,000.00.  This goes towards summer camp.  3rd-6th grade children will attend Centri-Kid Summer Camp at the Baptist Academy in San Marcos, Texas June 4-8, 2007.
Matt Reyes was in a helicopter crash in Iraq.  Matt is the grandson of Ray and Nancy Rawls.  The great-grandson of Hilly and Lovie Walker. Matt was flown to Germany - Landftruhl Hospital. He was able to talk on the phone with his family. He has multiple fractures and other injuries and is in a room with other men who were in the same accident. He had surgery at this location and then was flown to Maryland. He will be leaving for San Diego, CA tomorrow.  There were 9 of them from his group that are being transferred.  They want to stay up all night tonight so that maybe they can sleep on the 9 hour flight tomorrow.  He said the 4 hour flight from Iraq to Germany was horribly rough.  So if you want to talk to him he definitely wants us to wake him up!  The Red Cross is helping Robyn make travel arrangements to go on the 17th.  They will need help with expenses.  I understand the Red Cross will help the families get there, but they will be expected to be repaid.  But if anyone would like to send money for their (Josh, Pete, Jackie) expenses contact Susan Broyles.   Let's all keep Matt in our prayers - he's still in a lot of pain and will have lots of rehab.
The PTC Santa pictures can be picked up at Cherokee Grocery.  They turned out great.  Dixon is quite a talented photographer.
It is good to have Ann Altizer home.  She recently had surgery in Austin.  Albert Hiilsmeier recently had a pace maker installed.  He reported that he feels much better.  The holiday season would be a great time to visit Albert.  Other Cherokee residents that live at Eventide Nursing Home is Mance Randolph, Pauline Maddox, Pearlie Walters and Clyde and Beth Estep.  Jane Randolph had surgery in Methodist Hospital in San Antonio last Wednesday.  Her daughter, Sabra Roberts from Frisco is staying with her.  Llos Boultinghouse is home from an Austin Hospital.  Bernice Kuykendall visited friends in Cherokee last Saturday morning.  The Kuykendalls were having Christmas.  When you are in Llano, be sure and visit Bernice at Care Inn.
Michael and Lynda Randolph hosted the Randolph Christmas lunch.  Everyone enjoyed getting to know Jamie and Jenna Ball.  They both came dressed as little red Santa Clauses.
Funeral services were held Sunday in Richland Springs for Willie Mae Templeton.  We extend our sympathy to Kristy Perry and family.
Jeff and Ashley Cockrum had a nice birthday visit from Janane Nobles.  Janane brought them flowers, chocolate and some other nice gifts.  Jeff and Ashley were thrilled to see someone from 'back home'!
Several from Cherokee attended the Richland Springs football game.  Congratulations to Richland Springs on their win.

The news about Matt Reyes from Christy Austerman is good.  She reports that when she spoke to Nicole, she and Josh were walking the halls with Matt. He is feeling better each day and is eager to go home to continue his recovery. He is still on a M-pump so they are anxious to see how he does without it but are not sure when it will be removed. The hospital staff are already talking with Matt about being discharged. Matt and his family realize there is nothing more the hospital can do for him at this time. We are not sure where Matt will be discharged to (hopefully home).
The Austerman's will be hosting a New Years Eve party for their single friends (of all ages) from 7:30 to Midnight on New Years Eve.  If you're single and from the Cherokee area, check it out!  Please bring a Mexican Food dish and/or games.
A Christmas Eve Candlelight service was held at the Cherokee Baptist Church on Sunday evening.
