Dear friends,
Perhaps you have seen in the news that
there is unrest in Chad, and we would just like to ask you to pray for
this nation God has called us to.
If you have not read reports, online
news sources such as allafrica.com or bbc have good reports on what is
going on. In a nutshell, there is a rebel group trying to take power
from the goverment by force. Some are former members of the Chadian
military. There has been fighting between the rebels and the government
soldiers over the last several weeks, mostly in the Darfur region.
Thursday morning, the rebels attacked the capital city, N'Djamena, and
were defeated by government forces. It's reported that N'Djamena had
returned to normal by Friday afternoon. Presidential elections are scheduled for May 3rd.
We spoke to friends in Chad this
afternoon, they said that in the town of Sarh, where we live, and a DTS
is running at the moment, there has not been any violence, but people
are very nervous, and that there is a pretty big military presence in
the town.
We are booked to return to Chad May
10th, and are obviously keeping an eye on the news and praying for
discernment.
Please pray with us:
** for peace for Chad
** that the presidential elections
would be free and fair
** for the refugees in the Darfur
area, as now president Deby (who blames Sudan for arming the rebels) is
threatening to send them back to Sudan.
** for protection for our team there
** for wisdom and discernment for us
personally as we plan to return to Chad.
Thank you,
Moses
