From the conservation Inside bulletin:

North Carolina's coastal communities are critical to our state. In
large part, the vitality of these communities depends on the health of
ocean fish populations. NC fisheries support thousands of jobs – but
in order to protect and strengthen coastal economies, we must also
sustainably manage the resources on which they rely. The seafood
industry, combined with commercial and recreational fishing, adds
billions of dollars annually to our state's economy. For these
reasons, North Carolina's ocean fish are some of our most valuable
natural resources.

The Pew Environment Group is undertaking a campaign to address
overfishing issues. Details can be found at http://www.endoverfishing.org/index.html.
More information is also available from Pew Charitable Trust's North
Carolina representative, Seth Dearmin, at
