Waiting for You Under Kaufmann's Clock, by Linda Barnicott
| Relive Christmas Memories and Meet Santa in the History Center's New Holly Jolly Exhibit Exhibit opens Saturday, Nov. 18
For more than 130 years, families made the trip to Downtown Pittsburgh to celebrate the annual Christmas tradition of visiting Kaufmann's (and later, Macy's) department store. Along with checking gifts off their holiday shopping lists, they came to marvel at the breathtaking lights and decorations, magical window displays, and of course, to pay a special visit to Santa Claus himself. Relive those cherished memories at the History Center as part of A Very Merry Pittsburgh, a new holly jolly exhibition featuring original artifacts from Kaufmann's/Macy's, holiday décor, historic toys spanning the 1940s to the 2000s, and much more. No trip to Santaland is complete without a visit from old Saint Nick, so every day through Christmas Eve from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., take photos with Santa Claus in an exact replica of his original chair from Kaufmann's.
History Center members, you're invited to a special members only preview of our new exhibit this Saturday, Nov. 18, from 9 - 11 a.m.! Please register online or by calling Shirley Gaudette at 412-454-6436.

Celebrating Voices of Pittsburgh's Past Saturday, Nov. 18 | 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Step back in time as the History Center's Detre Library & Archives explores a selection of stories from Western Pennsylvania history at the fourth annual Treasures in the Archives event.
The Detre Library & Archives cares for countless local voices from the past, often captured on paper, in photographs, and on film. During the program, the staff members that help preserve these materials for posterity will share personal insights and professional reflections gained from working with them.
Stories will include a "Pittsburgh Party" held in Chicago in 1979; boxer Fritzie "The Croat Comet" Zivic's rise to fame during Pittsburgh's "Golden Age of Boxing" between 1939 and 1941; the grassroots efforts that led to the Western Pennsylvania Disability Advocacy Movement; and more.
Admission
This event is free and open to the public, but does not include access to History Center exhibits. Please register online.
