Is it possible to perform pixel binning?

Hi all,

I would like to know if there is an easy way to perform pixel binning using Cardinal? 

For instance, I want to combine an MSI data from four neighboring pixels (2x2 binning) into a single "super-pixel" (The ion intensity for each mass feature will be summed).  See figure below.
