to Carbon Dioxide Removal

Post Doc Opportunity for someone with experience and skills in: Point Source CCS, DAC, Policy, and Planning

California has set an ambitious goal of 100 Mt/year of carbon removal by 2045, but currently has no operating point source CCS, DAC, or BiCRS projects at scale.  One driver of this is not related to technological limitations, but a lack of suitable planning and regulatory structures to catalyze a new carbon management industry.  The goal of the project is to develop a first-of-its-kind roadmap for carbon removal deployment in California that explicitly addresses the structural barriers to project development. The major task that this position will address is to geospatially map (‘downscale’) 100 Mt per year target to clearly map where and how it could be possible to deliver the target .  Given the inherent uncertainty of future technology costs as well as the social, technical and political viability of different carbon removal pathways, alternative scenarios will need to be considered. For example, a biomass carbon removal-heavy scenario; a direct air capture-heavy scenario; and an industrial facility capture-heavy scenario.

This is a 1 year post doc position, starting 1/1/2025.
