MH] Offshore farming of halophytes within floating bioreactors, for Biochar and bio oil production, fits within the CDR definition(s). This particular tech tree would be an example of a 'Blue Biochar' mCDR technique.

This looks like one of the best biochar papers I have ever seen.  Great graphics.  Could open up a great deal more land.  

And presumably more use of ocean areas.  As well as soil-affected soil.

Great news for coastal, salt affected areas

The planned Floating City in Korea will grow seagrass and saltmarsh ecosystems around the edges with Biorock Electric Reef Technology to help purify polluted waters.

 

With robust floating platforms, shallow water ecosystems, such as seagrass and coral reefs, can be grown over deep water.

Halophyte-based Biochar/bio oil production has prior work to rely upon:

Micro and macroalgae have their CDR benefits, yet halophytes should also be included in the aquaculture-based mCDR tech tree. Using marine-grade photobioreactors would be needed for offshore farming of oil rich halophytes, yet the bio oil can be used to make the reactor hulls.

I'm glad to here about any details of the UN effort. The mCDR value of large platforms can be significantly greater than any land space due to the internal/controlled production abilities and due to the aid provided to the external wildlife.

Moreover, South Korea, like many other nations, is tying to stop the dumping of municipal waste sludge at sea. The below work can likely inform any mCDR platform design effort that expects to use the waste :

Using sludge as a fertilizer, and for other uses, within some floating agricultural reactors likely needs to be explored for reasons beyond mCDR.
