SB 308: Unpacking California's Latest Carbon Removal Bill

About this event

California has adopted a suite of world-leading emissions reductions policies and programs. However, its recent net-zero mandate highlighted a clear role for carbon dioxide removal (CDR) to provide up to 15% of the total mitigation needed to achieve this goal. SB 308 (Becker) is a bill currently moving through the state Legislature that would establish the regulatory framework and foundation to achieve this CDR target. Its key provisions would require separate mandates for carbon emissions reductions and carbon dioxide removal and to “ensure the state achieves carbon dioxide removals equivalent to at least 100% of statewide greenhouse gas emissions in calendar year 2045, and all subsequent years, in order to achieve the net zero and net negative greenhouse gas emissions goals.”

Sam and the show’s host, Wil Burns, will engage in a conversation to unpack the key elements of the proposed law and discuss how it could drive CDR deployment in both California and nationally.
