LOS ANGELES - Kirk Douglas, Harrison Ford and several other
celebrities showed their Thanksgiving spirit today by volunteering at
the Los Angeles Mission.
Wearing aprons and plastic gloves, they joined other volunteers in
serving up thousands of hot meals to homeless men, women and children.
The menu included turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, rolls, vegetables
and pumpkin pie.
Actresses Nia Long and Calista Flockhart and "The Hills" reality TV
star Spencer Pratt were among the stars who lent helping hands.
Long described the experience as "very grounding," and said it made
her feel grateful for all the things she has.
Douglas, who helped develop the mission's Anne Douglas Center for
Women, noted the event's affect on celebrities. He said in a mission
press release "Their involvement will help their souls as much as it
helps the guests being served."
