Hi friends, sorry for the mass email.
I've had a number of questions and wanted to fill people in.
Last year about 20 of us did a ride to raise money and awareness for survivors of residential schools. The group rode 215 km to one of the country's oldest residential schools.
Essentially we left from High Park at about 5:30 am and rode to Brantford and back. It was well run and a safe and well organized group. We cleared the city before the traffic hit.
We raised close to $30K for the Anishnawbe Health Foundation. The health center is led by indigenous people, offering culturally supportive health and healing services. This is particularly important for people who have experienced trauma within our own health systems.
This year the ride is on June 18. Our goal is the same- raise money and draw attention to the needs of residential school survivors.
Some people chose to fundraise, others chose just to ride to support the cause. Some short- turned at the GO station in Aldershot and others did the whole ride. For most of us it was a chance to raise awareness about a really tough chapter in our history and try and help some people who'd had a very traumatic childhood.
This year a local indigenous artist designed jerseys and we are selling them through Jakaroo. (Note this is seperate from the donation site, which will go live soon.)
Please reach out to Leigh Tynan or myself if you have questions. It's also worth noting this is an unsanctioned ride.
Thanks and have a great day.
