*SPECIAL ALERT*
Since August 2006, there have been seven residential burglaries
reported in the 200 & 300 blocks of E. University Parkway. Six of the
seven burglaries have occurred in the late night - early morning
hours. The prevalent method of entry has been through a rear door or
window on the first and second floors. In many cases, investigations
have revealed that the burglar gained access by climbing a fire escape
and entering through an open or unlocked window or door. Ensure that
all windows and doors are closed and locked before leaving or turning
in at the end of the night. Report all unusual or suspicious activity
to Campus Safety and Security (410-516-7777) immediately or call 911.
Preventing Burglaries
·All windows should be equipped with adequate locking devices,
preferably key operated, and should be kept locked at all times.
Windows used for ventilation should be lockable in partially open
positions.
·Iron window grates can offer protection, but provision must be made
to allow the use of windows for emergency evacuation of the building.
Interior removable or folding grates are recommended for this purpose.
·Every outside door, without exception, should be equipped with a
deadbolt lock and locked at all times.
