Full Statement

Dear CUPA Community,

I hope that this communication finds you well. A goal for our organization is to always consider the best interest of our participants first, and recent events remind us of that fact. With that in mind, I wanted to share an update from the perspective of CUPA for all of you.

As many of you are already aware, there are growing concerns about the recent spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) around the globe and more recently in parts of the United States. Most of the concern simply stems from the fact that there are so many unknowns with this situation and the landscape is evolving daily. While CUPA as an organization does not have the experience or resources to solve these issues, we can certainly leverage the information that becomes available from sources better equipped to figure this out (i.e., CDC, national sports organizations, local government, and so on).

The primary reason for sharing this update right now is to ensure our members that we are monitoring the situation. At this time, we do not have sufficient enough reason to cancel any events or cease any operations, but awareness can at least help us to take appropriate measures to reduce risks. We won’t be able to eliminate the risk altogether, but we will continue to stay vigilant in an effort to best serve our community through this time.

To avoid reinventing the wheel, I recommend that you take a minute to read the recent response from USA Ultimate here. As the national governing body for our sport, we will trust much of their guidance on the situation, including recommendations about how to take precautions and where to find more information if you desire.

Again, my intention for this statement was to reassure everyone that we are taking this matter seriously and want everyone to feel safe in our community. We encourage each one of you to make decisions that are best for yourself and your families. Meanwhile, we will continue to share updates as more information becomes available. If you ever have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me and we’ll help as best we can. Thanks to everyone for continuing to be a supportive community and we trust all of you to navigate this time with care and attention.

Thanks,

Ryan Gorman
