Dear CUPA Community,
The first thing that I want to do is to send my best to all of you and your families at this time. While these past few days have challenged all of us, I remain confident that our community will continue to respect and support each other as we try to figure all of this out. Thanks in advance to all of you for your understanding through such an uncertain time.
The landscape of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation seems to evolve by the hour and this creates a challenge for CUPA as an organization to be both proactive while also avoiding taking unnecessary action. As an organization run by volunteers without the experience and resources to manage global healthcare issues, we will continue to rely on the guidance that we can collect from more qualified sources (i.e., WHO and CDC, sports organizations including USA Ultimate, local government, etc.) to help us navigate the best course of action. What we can promise is that we are monitoring the situation and will not take this lightly. The safety of our participants and community remains paramount.
Based on our best assessment, we have decided to suspend all CUPA activities immediately and until further notice. We also encourage everyone to consider taking precautions outside of CUPA activities to reduce risks as much as possible (this includes any ultimate at the pick-up level or outside of CUPA’s oversight). Our intent is not to create more concern, but simply to minimize risk where we can while more information becomes available.
Next Steps: The CUPA Board will continue to monitor the situation regularly. Our plan is to provide weekly updates to the community (or on-demand if timeliness dictates) regarding any changes to the current status or future plans. We ask everyone to give us this next week to create clearer outcomes as far as cancellation of current leagues, refunds, and plans for resuming play at a later date. As everything has happened so quickly, we greatly appreciate your understanding that we need some time to clear up the mechanics of this suspension of activity. We promise to keep you informed as best we can.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me and I’ll do my best to provide answers in a timely fashion. Meanwhile, please take precautions to keep you and your family safe, and we look forward to seeing you on the field again soon!
Thanks,
Ryan Gorman
