AI எனும் செயற்கை நுண்ணறிவு, Chatbots, குரலைப் புரிந்துகொண்டு எழுத்துருவம் கொடுப்பது, மொழி விளையாட்டுகள்....இவற்றைத் தமிழ் போன்ற ஒரு பழமையான மொழியில் அறிமுகம் செய்வது எளிதல்ல.

ஆனால் சாத்தியமே. இவற்றை ஆழமாக ஆராய்ந்தது இவ்வாண்டின் தமிழ் இணைய அனைத்துலக மாநாடு.
அமெரிக்காவில் டல்லஸ் மாநகரத்தில் டெக்சாஸ் பல்கலைக்கழகத்தில் உத்தமம் எனும் தமிழ்த் தகவல் தொழில்நுட்ப அனைத்துலக மன்றம் (https://infitt.org)  ஜூன் 14-16 தேதிகளில் ஏற்பாடு செய்திருந்தது.
 
உலகில் தமிழர்கள் பெரும் எண்ணிக்கையில் வாழும் நாடுகளான இந்தியா, இலங்கை, மலேசியா, சிங்கப்பூர், அமெரிக்கா மற்றும் ஐரோப்பிய நாடுகளில் இம்மன்றத்தின் சார்பில் ஆய்வரங்கம், கருத்தரங்கம் மற்றும் பல்வேறு நிகழ்ச்சிகளை உள்ளடக்கிய உலகத் தமிழ் இணைய மாநாடுகள் நடைபெற்று வருகின்றன. 1999-ல் சென்னையில் நடைபெற்ற 2வது தமிழ் இணைய மாநாடு அப்போதைய முதலமைச்சர் கருணாநிதி தலைமையில் நடைபெற்றது.

இந்த மாநாட்டிற்கு முதலமைச்சர் மு.க.ஸ்டாலின், தமிழ் வளர்ச்சி மற்றும் செய்தித்துறை அமைச்சர் மு.பெ.சாமிநாதன்,  சந்திரயானம் 1 திட்ட இயக்குநர் மயில்சாமி அண்ணாதுரை, உள்ளிட்டோர் வாழ்த்துகள் தெரிவித்தனர்.  இன்று அனைத்து பத்திரிக்கைகளும், சமூக ஊடகங்களும் யூனிகோடு தமிழ் எழுத்துருக்களில் இயங்குவதற்கு உத்தமம் போன்ற அமைப்புகள் பெரிய அளவில் பங்காற்றி உள்ளது.

அமெரிக்காவில் இந்த ஆண்டு நடைபெற்ற 22-வது இணைய மாநாட்டின் ஓர் அங்கமாக மாணவர்களுக்குத் தமிழ் Hackathon நிரலாக்கப் போட்டி ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டது.

மாநாட்டில் சிங்கப்பூர், இலங்கை, ஜப்பான், ஜெர்மனி, அமெரிக்கா, ஐரோப்பா ஆகியவற்றைச் சேர்ந்த பேராளர்கள் கலந்துகொண்டு 20 ஆய்வுக் கட்டுரைகளைப் படைத்தனர். அதோடு, வளர்ந்துவரும் தொழில்நுட்பங்கள் பற்றிய பயிரலங்குகளும் நடத்தப்பட்டன.  ”காசி நகர்ப் புலவர் பேசும் உரைதான் காஞ்சியில் கேட்பதற்கோர் கருவி செய்வோம்!” என்னும் பாரதியார் வாக்கு தொலைபேசியிலே வந்துவிட்டாலும், வாட்ஸப் போன்றவற்றின் வளர்ச்சி மொபைல் போன்களில் உலகம் முழுதும் தமிழர்களை இணைக்கிறது. இருமுனைகளில் இரு வேறு இந்திய மொழிகளைப் பேசினாலும், ’ரியல்-டைம்’ மொழிபெயர்ப்பு இயங்கும் காலம் நெருங்கிவருகிறது. அதன் சாத்தியங்கள், சிக்கல்களை  எல்லாம் பொறியாளர்கள் இம் மாநாட்டில் அலசி ஆராய்ந்தனர். உத்தமம் அமைப்பின் தலைவர், டாக்டர் நா. கணேசன் (நாசா ஜான்சன் விண்மையம்), முனைவர் கு. கலியாணசுந்தரம் (சுவிட்சர்லாந்து), எஸ். மணியம் (சிங்கப்பூர்), வாசு ரங்கநாதன், பேரா. ஜெய் வீராசாமி மற்றும் தமிழ்ச் சமூகத் தன்னார்வலர்கள் ஒன்றுகூடி வெற்றிகரமாக நடத்தினர். மூன்று நாட்களும், விருந்தோம்பலும், கலாசார நிகழ்ச்சிகளும் தமிழ்ப்பள்ளிகள் ஒருங்கிணைத்தனர். இந்தியாவின் தூதர் நிறைவு விழாவில் பங்கேற்றார்.

தமிழ் ஆர்வலர் பால் பாண்டியனுக்கு “பூந்தமிழ்ப் புரவலர்” என்ற பட்டம் வழங்கப்பெற்றது. ஹனுமன்.ஏஐ என்னும் டல்லஸ் நிறுவனம் “செயற்கை நுண்ணறிவுத் தொழில்நுட்பத்தை முன்னெடுக்கிறது. அந்த நிறுவனம் மாநாடு சிறப்பாக நடைபெற $ 15,000 நன்கொடை வழங்கியது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

Let me recall few efforts that I was involved in INFITT. I am sure other Infitters like Kalyan, Vasu, Maniam, Arul, Rama Sukanthan, ... visiting Dallas can add to the list.

(1) First and foremost, INFITT was involved in communications with https://unicode.org and Govt. of Tamil Nadu in bringing the Encoding of Tamil in ISO 10646 to a better shape than it was originally done. We used the famed Madras Tamil Lexicon as the basis. Now that enhanced Tamil in Unicode standard works in all platforms, mobiles in social media, Google OCR etc.,

For this, Profs. V. C. Kulandaiswamy and Mu. Ananthakrishnan helped and acted as patrons of INFITT until their passing away. You can see Prof. Mu. Ananthakrishnan announcing INFITT conference coinciding with Classical Tamil conference in Coimbatore (2010).

ஃபெட்னா ஆண்டு விழா மலர் ஒன்றில், பேரா. மு. ஆனந்த கிருஷ்ணன் ஐயாவைப் பற்றி ஓர் அஞ்சலிக் கட்டுரை எழுதினேன். அதைத் தேடி எடுத்து அனுப்புவேன்.

(2) I read "அக்கரைச் சீமையில்” by Mii. Pa. Somu who was with BBC Radio (Tamil) in 1960s. In my library, I have its 1961 edition. Somu was a member of Rasikamani TKC's VaTTattoTTi, and he tells in this book, how he located Rev. G. U. Pope's cemetery, his experience of meeting the British MP who was the son of the person who built Mullaip Periyar dam that helped 100s of villages etc., Then BBC Radio (Tamil) was getting shut down in the 90s. Repeatedly I wrote to BBC officials requesting them to start BBC (Tamil) service using the newly emerging Unicode encoding of Tamil script. We were elated when our request was granted. This modern news service has grown by leaps and bounds, and brings Tamil capacity to tell modern happenings around the World in trade, engg., medicine,  etc.,upto date immediately. To make the classical language into a modern language, sites like BBC/Tamil do yeoman service.
