Himes Votes Against Giving ICE and Border Patrol a $70 Billion Blank Check
Washington, D.C. – Today, Representative Jim Himes (CT-04) released the following statement after voting against Congressional Republicans’ bill to provide $70 billion in unrestricted funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP):
“What did the $140 billion Congressional Republicans gave to ICE and CBP last year get the American people? Renée Good and Alex Pretti murdered in Minneapolis, protestors brutalized by masked agents, children separated from their families, and immigrant communities terrorized across the country. The American people don’t want Congress to spend $70 billion on more lawlessness and violence, especially at a time when gas is $4.25 a gallon and energy prices are soaring. We should be focused on lowering costs and improving our constituents’ lives, not funding threats against them.”
