COMPTROLLER SEAN SCANLON STATEMENT ON TRUMP ADMINISTRATION’S CUTS TO MENTAL HEALTH AND ADDICTION SERVICES
(HARTFORD, CT) – Comptroller Sean Scanlon issued the following statement in response to the Trump Administration’s defunding of hundreds of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) grants.
“Cutting funds that help Connecticut residents access mental health care isn't how you Make America Healthy Again. These cuts will truly hurt people in this state and jeopardize the real progress we've been making to reduce barriers to care and reduce the number of people we lose each year to overdose, suicide, and other deaths that can be prevented with treatment. Like me and most of us, President Trump comes from a family with loved ones who have struggled with addiction. I join Governor Lamont and mental health providers in our state in calling on him and his administration to reverse these misguided cuts and ensure people continue getting the help they need and deserve.”
