Advocates Celebrate Connecticut Supreme Court Reversal, Press Case
to Seat Amadasun back to Superior Court to Uphold Voters’ Choice
South Windsor, CT – In a major win for South Windsor voters, the Connecticut Supreme Court unanimously and immediately reversed the trial Court's dismissal of Amadasun v. Armstrong (HHD-CV25-6214193-S),remanding the case back to the Superior Court for further proceedings, where Mr. Harrison Amadasun and the voters of South Windsor will finally get their day in Court.
“Today’s ruling was a win for both Democracy and the voters of South Windsor. The unanimous decision from the Connecticut Supreme Court ruled in favor of both voter intent and the legislative intent of the Charter Commission,” Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz said after ruling today. “I am hopeful the Superior Court will review and come to the same conclusion,” Lieutenant Governor Bysiewicz said.
In a rare step underscoring the case’s significance, the high court issued an oral ruling immediately after arguments. Amadasun and his supporters said they look forward to the case’s return to Superior Court, confident the evidence will show he belongs on the Town Council and affirm the voters’ choice.
“It was a great day for all the voters of South Windsor when the state Supreme Court ruled they will get their day in court. At the upcoming trial, we will investigate the outcome and ensure there was no nefarious intent,” Attorney John Kennelly said. “Harrison is a good man, will be a better public servant, and deserves to serve on the South Windsor Town Council,” Kennelly concluded.
“The Connecticut Supreme Court’s unanimous ruling honors accountability, transparency, and above all, the respect for voters,” Town Councilor-elect Harrison Amadasun said today. “I look forward to our case being fully heard in Superior Court,” Amadasun concluded.
“The Connecticut Supreme Court’s reversal is a clear victory for democracy and for South Windsor voters. We are grateful to all who supported this effort,” South Windsor Democratic Town Committee Chair Anitha Elango stated after today’s ruling. “This fight is not over as we return to Superior Court, but we are confident the evidence will speak for itself, and Harrison Amadasun will rightfully take his seat on the Town Council, delivering the success our voters deserve,” Elango concluded.
On Nov. 4, 2025, South Windsor voters elected six Democrats and three Republicans to the Town Council and approved charter revisions. The next day, unelected town bureaucrats retroactively applied the charter changes, overturning the certified result and awarding the seat to Republican Rick Balboni, who had trailed Democrat Harrison Amadasun by nearly 1,000 votes.
A video (https://youtu.be/PLBZ4Txy1_A) released by Deputy Mayor Andrew Paterna, who served as Charter Review Commission Chair, shows the Commission agreeing that the charter revisions would take effect in 2027. This bipartisan record was ignored by town officials and constitutes evidence that will now be heard in court.
“I am pleased that the video, minutes, and other evidence will now be able to be reviewed by a judge,” Deputy Mayor Andrew Paterna said. “Our Commission worked for 18 months in a bipartisan way, and our intent all along was that changes would occur in 2027,” Deputy Mayor Paterna concluded.
