Hello all,
This may apply most to Ryan as I am checking the status of the
patrol. I would very much like to start patrolling officially ASAP,
there is still good usage of the Canon all winter. I am hoping to
find out what the official status of the patrol is because I want to
use my patrol time as 6 credits of field experience for my Ex Phys/
Kinesiology degree. Thanks for any info.-Kip

Hey Kip, it's Allen. I'm going to be having a get together at my place
this Sunday after the CSCC Sunday Social ride. Weather permiting,
planning on a late afternoon mtn bike ride in Ute Valley (I live real
close) then a casual bar-b-que at my home for the Bike Patrol. I
agree, we should get folks out Patroling as soon as they can, very
cool that it will apply to your schooling as well. I'll be sending the
email out to the group next. Cheers,

Allen

Hi everyone,
Well, it's pretty much official - IMBA should have our Patrol
registration by now (sent it out on Monday) and I'm hoping to hear
from them by next week sometime! We will officially be the Colorado
Springs/Medicine Wheel Mountain Bike Patrol!

I will upload some documents over the next few days as well, including
a Patrol Log (word doc) and Incident Report Form (word doc). I also
have a simple (very simple) excel sheet to track such things as cars
at the trailhead, cyclists, equestrians, runners/hikers, etc.
encountered, and the usual name/date/park/area where the patrolling
took place. I know some folks in the group are very gifted when it
comes to making amazing looking spreadsheets and graphs, so I will
upload that sheet as well and offer that up to someone to make it all
spiffy and useful ;-)

So the winter is coming on kind of slowly here, and I'm sure places
like Cheyenne Canyon are in pretty good shape. I've seen a good bunch
of trail users still out at Red Rock Canyon over the weekends. Because
of this, if anyone wants to begin patrolling you can start to record
some of the information on these documents that will be uploaded this
week and then we'll see how it goes through the winter. My thought is
to make the last few weeks of 2008 and the first few months of 2009
very low key as we officially organize the group a bit more. This will
be a good time to work out any bugs and to help everyone get as
involved as they want to be.

If you haven't signed up and would like to become a member with IMBA,
here are a few options:
http://imba.com/nmbp/membership.html

IMBA offers a "Patroller Membership" and an "Ambassador Membership"
which differ slightly in their requirements. The main difference is
that to join as a "Patroller" you need basic first aid and CPR, while
you can go without that to become an "Ambassador."

Here is a link to the benefits associated with becoming an IMBA Bike
Patroller:
http://www.imba.com/nmbp/benefits.html

If you have any suggestions, questions, or comments, just let me know.
Thanks!
Ryan

Ryan,

Thank you for the info. Winter truly has taken a long time to finally set in but even w/th e snow, I do believe there are Patrolling opportunities.

I'll take a look @the doc's and let you know. I'm sure they will fit the needs quite well and maybe into next year/Summertime we can look at what worked well and what might still need to be added.

Lots of opportunity for 2009!

Merry Christmas & Happy Holiday's to all,

Allen

Ryan,

I just wanted to say thank you for all your work in getting the Patrol up and running again.  The grunt work doesn't often get acknowledged, but I certainly appreciate your commitment.  It's great to see new people involved in MTB advocacy around the region.

Thanks again and happy holidays!

I agree 100%  The Springs has a definite need for a Patrol and thanks to Ryan, it's being formed and should be up and running before years end. Great job!

2009 should be a great year for cycling in the Pikes Peak Region.

Cheers,

Allen
