Hi all,
Christy and I just returned from a very productive meeting with Ryan
Downing at CMSP and are excited for what we can do there in 2010. So
here's the quick rundown:

* Orientation on March 6th, 8-12 - not required, but anyone who can
make it is more than welcome (I heard from some folks already, so just
let me know if anything changes in your plans and you can now show up)
* Specific park training - There are a few sessions that park bike
patrollers would have to do, about 4-8 hours each, before officially
starting. We would try to do this soon after orientation.
* First goal for the patrol - develop a core group of people who can
provide coverage on the trails at fairly regular time frames,
especially holiday times and busier weekends. Provide the numbers for
IMBA to further enhance their bike patrol efforts by logging time,
incidents, etc. on the log sheets.
* Second goal - provide coverage for the 3 day UCI race in June. Last
year we had a good showing, but this year we would like to make it
more organized and really showcase the patrol since it will likely be
an even bigger event.

A few things in order to get started for 2010:
* I heard back from Spencer at IMBA and they are working on getting
our patrol group listed on the web site. My first priority is making
sure this happens since they were undergoing some website revisions
and our group was lost in the shuffle.
* Once you hear (on this discussion group) that we are listed on the
site, you should sign up and go through the following steps:
- Take the online test, print it out, save one copy for yourself,
and send one copy to me (I need to provide this to CMSP)
- Provide proof of First Aid/CPR certification (copy of cards) so
I can compile these and give them to the park
* I will have a form from CMSP soon that details the volunteer "job"
description and will post that here.

So...
1. Dates on park training TBD after orientation
2. I will let everyone know when we are listed on IMBA's site
3. Signups can happen after we get listed
4. I will need proof of the online test and proof of CPR/First Aid to
get started at CMSP

If you have any questions, just let me know.
Thanks!
Ryan

Ryan,

Most excellent!

I didn't get a note as to when the meeting was (1 or 2) so when CeCe got out of her meeting early, I ended up spending some quality couple time...shopping for the kitchen & such :-) I love Sparrow Hawk!

Sounds like the meeting was very successful & it's a great program that you have outlined.

I figured now that we live so close, I could just run the NMBP Instructor schtuff by your house. Spencer made DVD copies of the webinar (he was video taped) & the extra Patroller books that he sent.

It's going to be really nice having the Patrol start out w/CMSP, they are going to provide some really high-quality training & a structure that would be hard to match w/out their resources.

If you have time, give me a call today @home, 266.8331.

Cheers,

Allen

Hey Ryan-
So won't be able to make the training on March 6th since we are heading out of town.  Right now my CPR and First AId is technically about to expire (2/10) because I woul drenew it with a group up in Woodland Park but Lindsay told me you guys do it in April so I was just going to wait until then.  I signed up with IMBA as a patroller several months ago so not sure if I'm in their system somewhere but I have the patch and everything.  Just let me know what I should do from here when you find out more.

Hey Teri,
No problem on the orientation...thanks for the heads up. Yeah, we
usually do a regular CPR/First Aid update here at the office.

So I would check with IMBA (this goes for everyone in the group who
signed up with them) by calling Spencer and asking about your patrol
membership because our group doesn't show up in the drop down menu for
new signups or renewals at the moment. The more calls we can put in,
the quicker we can get it turned around. I've been in touch with IMBA
for a couple months now trying to get us listed on the patrol page,
but that didn't get the group in the drop down menu...just the page
that lists all of the groups.

From here, I'm going to send an update out after the orientation
session and schedule some training days there. Some of it will be with
park staff and some will be just with other patrol members. Hopefully
we can get that covered by mid-April and then start patrolling there
by the end of April or early May.

Thanks!
Ryan
