Hi everyone,
On 9/18, the 24 Hours of Colorado Springs is taking place on the
Falcon Trail at the Air Force Academy. You can find all of the info
here:
http://www.24hoursofcos.com/
This event benefits the Wounded Warriors Project with 100% of the
proceeds going to that fund. It is a great opportunity for all of the
members of this group, regardless of your current level of involvement
with IMBA, to get out and help make this event happen. If you were
participating in the Falcon 100k, you can understand the hurdle of
getting enough volunteers. That event almost didn't happen, and a
cutoff had to be established in order to accommodate the lack of
volunteers on the course. Let's make this charity event happen!
It will start at noon on 9/18 and end at noon on 9/19. Unlike the
requirements for Cheyenne Mountain State Park, you will not have to
wear the IMBA Bike Patrol jerseys or anything, so it should be easier
to make it out for this event. Tim Scott is putting on the event and
is looking to get 15 people (for shifts) from the group to be on
course. There are two major areas aside from the start/finish area
where patrol members will be needed:
1. At the "rock drop" location before the one long climb - if anything
happens here, it will be most likely a slow speed fall since most
folks are smart enough to know if they can ride it or not
2. Below the ridge near the golf course (after the last climb) - there
are two switchbacks before the trail opens up again and has some off
camber spots. This is a high speed area and when riders are tired at
night, this could pose a serious hazard if someone carries too much
speed and crashes here.
If you can volunteer, please get back to me as soon as possible with
the following information:
* Day (Sat or Sun)
* Time frame (anytime from noon Sat through noon Sun)
* Any advanced medical training (beyond basic FA and CPR)
I know nights are difficult, but this is the most important time since
people will be tired and riding fast. If you can donate any time
throughout the night, it would be a huge help.
Thank you!
Ryan
