Captain Jacks Trail Workday – Saturday June 12, 2010

CMTRA, USFS, Colo Springs City Parks, Medicine Wheel, WMBA
participating

2 shifts: 9am -12 1 pm – 3pm (most will likely work the morning
shift)

Lunch provided for both shifts about Noon.

Some prizes to raffle off.

Location – Lower Captain Jacks trailhead near Tunnel 1 on Gold Camp
Rd. Consider carpooling in, parking space may be limited.

Work Planned – Reroute trail around some private property. The
private land owner will no longer allow the trail to cross his
property. We will build 1000 feet of new trail to go around the
private property. The trail on the private property will eventually
be closed so this new trail needs to be completed to keep the lower
portion of Captain Jacks open! This new trail is flagged and ready to
be built.

We will be working on a steep south(hot) facing slope to build this
new trail. There is thick brush including yucca plants so dress
accordingly. Work will be done by hand with picks, mattocks,
McLeod’s, Pulaski’s, saws etc. We will supply the tools.

We will hike in about ½ mile up a steep drainage to get to the work
area. We each need to carry 1-2 tools in. If you do wish to ride a
dirt bike or mountain bike in by way of the trail you may. We may ask
you to bring a tool in on your bike. You will have to leave your bike
just off the main trail, we will not be able to provide security for
your bike.

Bring – work clothes(shorts discouraged), good boots, gloves, enough
water, snacks, sunscreen.

We plan to have a Port-a-Potty at the trailhead.

In summary this will be a strenuous but very rewarding work half day.
With about 40 volunteers we should be able to complete this new trail
and keep Captain Jacks open.

Please RSVP including which shift you wish to work. Please RSVP to
your club’s point of contact – CMTRA, Medicine Wheel or WMBA.

For now, RSVP to Harry at hha...@earthlink.net.
Thanks!
