* They had a directive since they opened to get a bike patrol group in
the park
* We need to start with one spot for people to come and then branch
out from there (rather than the reverse)
* The park will provide a great opportunity for a new patrol group to
shine because of the high number of visitors and the UCI race in July
Latest Update:
I spoke with Ryan Downing at the State Park last week and we worked
out a few things for the upcoming weeks, so wanted to put the word out
there.
1. Christy and I are meeting with him on Saturday, February 13th
(morning, exact time TBD) at the park to set up the plans for them
having a bike patrol in the park this year. We might do a ride if the
trails are in good shape after that. You are welcome to come; just let
me know if you want to and I can let you know about the time.
2. March 6th is a volunteer orientation session (I think 0800-1200)
that is "highly encouraged" for anyone interested in volunteering. It
mostly covers policies, etc...the important stuff.
3. I emailed the PP Chapter of the Red Cross to inquire about group
training for Wilderness First Aid and will also check with Ryan at the
State Park about opportunities there.
We are planning on attending the 1st orientation session on 3/6, but
probably not the others - the remaining sessions involve learning
about the flowers, rocks, etc. and I'd rather get down to the patrol
stuff after that.
So...
If you would like to volunteer this year at the park, please let me
know if you can attend the 3/6 orientation session as it is the most
important one they have. If you can't, it doesn't mean that you won't
be able to patrol there, but showing a good presence will really
help.
I believe the incentive is the same for volunteering - you would get
an annual Colorado State Parks pass for your time at CMSP.
The patrol group itself has not changed, and it will remain relaxed
(no radios, no mandatory schedules, etc.) as it has been in 2009, but
we will just try to provide the majority of our time to CMSP. So good
riding on great trails, all while keeping one patrol eye on things
while you are out there.
Thanks!
Ryan
Hey Ryan-
I will let you know about the 6th. We (me and Roger) are tentatively planning a trip to Ouray that weekend because I got Roger ice climbing lessons for Christmas. If we go a different weekend I will plan on being there since I'm officially signed up through IMBA at bike patrol so I'm all set.

Ryan, how do you become a mountain bike patrol volunteer? I have been on line to IMBA does not tell you much. If I had the training I would love to volunteer my time at the park and I could make it on March 6 for the orientation. Eric V
As for signing up, you can go to IMBA's site at www.imba.com I believe
and click on the patrol link. I just heard back from one of their web
site guys and they are apparently going through a huge upgrade the the
site...the COS group isn't listed yet on the patrol page, but you can
still sign up and fax or mail the paper back in. The group is the
Medicine Wheel/Colorado Springs MTB Patrol.
If you need any other help with that, just let me know!

More details to follow,

Fantastic! I'm so very glad that it worked out for the partnership between
the Medicine Wheel NMBP and Cheyenne Mountain State Park. What a great thing
it will be for not only the park system but the community as a whole.
Look forward to finding out more as the winter drags on...so that we will be
out riding the sweet single track of CMSP when the weather warms up...as
Patrollers!
Cheers,
Allen
