Grants, gatherings and Urban Fringe Report

SOME NEWS!

We have just received the 'Food from the urban fringe report' from Making Local Food Work, which recommends better support for small scale food production in the urban fringe, as vital production opportunities are being missed. The full report is on the MLFW website (www.makinglocalfoodwork.co.uk). Makes for an interesting read. Contact Katherine Darling if you have any queries: katherin...@plunkett.co.uk

If you live in the South East...

Don't forget there's a regional networking gathering coming up near Salisbury, more details online:

Here's a few interesting business opportunities from food nation.

Sign up for the latest updates below. The Spring issue includes articles on a Farm Shop in Hackney, The Soil Association Organic Market Report 2011, which I'm sure you've all read, 'Farm Business Friday' news (Twitter: #fbf @food_nation), and information on signing up to become a cropshare member! Current grant application news:

- The Buy Better Together Challenge aimed at community organisations, with only £60k in the pot and £15k for the overall winner.

- The Coastal  Communities Fund is now open for applications by mid-April

- In the past, Lush have kindly provided bursaries for the Transition Training courses, their shops are now running environmental, charity and campaigning events that tie up with their local Transition group. For example Transition Cambridge did a training session on running charity events in the shops. Lush is is a vegan company so they wouldn't want to get involved with any projects promoting rearing animals. If you think there is something you could do together contact your local shop directly. Or contact Lotte who works with the Lush Green Team to support the shops doing all things green: ecot...@lush.co.uk

Exciting news from the Community Composting Network (CCN)

They have received a grant from the Big Lottery Fund and will be delivering training at hubs across England over the next couple of years. CCN will be holding FREE seminars from today onwards, the 13th of March until the 1st of April, in various locations across the UK, with a FREE locally sourced lunch! Go along to see how you can get involved. Visit the website (www.communitycompost.org) for more information and send booking forms to atho...@communitycompost.org to reserve your place.
