Securing your business through community support

22 April 2013 14:00 - 17:00

The Community Farm, nr Bristol

This workshop will explore some of the ways you can build a new approach into your farm business which offers a secure cash flow, is more resilient and has a more loyal customer base.

Existing work on community supported agriculture (CSA) in the UK has been very clearly focused on community-led initiatives, but there has been an increasing interest amongst producers in adopting the approach as an alternative business model. There are already some very good working examples of producers using the CSA approach as a more secure market for their produce, sometimes alongside other marketing routes. This approach is particularly relevant to smaller scale organic producers who find it difficult to broker viable contracts with the bulk retail and procurement markets.

We will present examples of community supported agriculture from a range of enterprises, with a focus on how each model operates in practice.

There will be time for discussion with the farmers and growers, business advisors and CSA experts to answer your questions.

Speakers to include:

Optional farm walk from 5pm.

This event is aimed at existing producers who are considering a community supported agriculture approach.
