Please be aware and share- just posted on MRTC FB
1) Work continues on upgrading the drainage and
surface on the Mon River Rail-Trail from mile 24
(Opekiska) to mile 29 (Pricketts Fort State Park). The
trail will be OPEN but make sure equipment operator sees you
before going through the work zone. This work will be
ongoing during October and November.
2) We anticipate in early November- Deckers Creek Trail
section will be resurfaced with compacted stone from
Little Greer (Greer Deckers Creek Plant) to Masontown- 4
miles. The Deckers Creek Trail Restoration grant
project is partially funded by a grant from the Federal
Highway Administration’s Transportation Alternatives Program
administered by the West Virginia Department of
Transportation, Division of Highways. Trail will be CLOSED
during work.
3) This Sunday, October 26 you can
haunt the waters
of the Mon River with MRTC and the Morgantown Area
Paddlers. Meet up at Walnut Street Landing in Morgantown and
plan to be on water from 3-6 p.m. Need a kayak or
paddleboard? You can rent from Morgantown Adventure
Outfitters-

Life jacket required, costume encouraged. Some witches
hats and decor will be available for small donation to
MRTC.
4) Our friends at Morgantown Running are hosting the Halloween
Half-Marathon this SATURDAY, October 25. From 7:30
a.m. to 11:30 a.m. over 200 runners will be between Seneca
Center (mile 8.5) and trail mile 2 on the Mon River
Rail-Trail. Still time to register for the spookiest race!
If you are not running, feel free to cheer runners on or you
may want to avoid this congested area.
5) Friends of Deckers Creek are leading a
fall
clean-up this Saturday, Oct. 25 from 9-noon on Deckers
Creek Trail and creek river banks. Meet up at the
Outdoor Learning Park behind Sabraton Kroger and mile 2 of
the Deckers Creek Rail-Trail. Join in. RSVP to Albert-

encouraged or just show up. Might bring your own gloves.
Trash bags provided.
6) We anticipate leaf blowing machine to start
on the Deckers Creek Trail on Monday, Oct. 27. Trail
remains open but be alert for encounter with equipment. This
work removes leaves, nuts, and sticks from the trail outside
of Morgantown city limits.
