E bikes should be limited to 15 mph on multi use trails.

They are here. They need to be regulated and inforced.

Jim and Team CRC and Mon Bike Club,
I agree that there should be a speed limit for these bicycles on multi-use trails, especially when other users are out and about. (IMO) When other users are around, I think 12 mph as a top consistent speed makes sense. A common sense precaution is to ride one's ebike as if it were just a regular bicycle, but with help on the hills and gritty gravel.
I have other opinions and I'll share them when we are back out on the roads and trails!

E-bikes are usually fine if they are pedal assist but this year I saw quite a few full throttle electric motorcycles on the Mon trail that went whizzing by me.  Ella has told me to call the police to report but it seems a waste of time as they would likely not be caught.  In fact, down by the amphitheater I’ve seen electric scooters and throttle bikes go right by parked police cars on the Caperton and no reaction from the police.  So I think it is a problem that is only going to get worse.

The Mon River/Deckers Creek Rail-Trails were conceived, designed and built as non-motorized greenways.
Now the state condones the use of such contraptions on state rail-trails including the Greenbrier River Trail, the North Bend Rail Trail, and the Elk River Trail.

Who is going to say "NO" when it comes to the rest of our Rail-Trails?
The answer? No one.

Another opinion from me, pedal assist bikes are usually fine, and I imagine people getting increased mobility from them. One caveat is that they COULD be used to whiz by someone if the rider wanted to push it, but I have never seen that. In fact, I prefer it when I can't tell what mode the rider is in, except on a hill it would become apparent ...
