Good afternoon trail friends!
1) Starting TODAY, the Deckers Creek Rail-Trail is OPEN
for a few weeks on the section being resurfaced from the
Greer Deckers Creek Plant (mile 9.5) to the Masontown Trailhead
(mile 13.5) at Sand Bank Road. This resurfacing of a 4-mile
stretch of trail with compacted limestone will continue on
Monday, Dec. 8. Thank you to crew from WVDOH Cenforce for
this work! Please be alert to changing surface conditions in
the work zone.
The Deckers Creek Rail-Trail Restoration project is partially
funded by a grant from the Federal Highway Administration’s
Transportation Alternatives Program which is administered by the
West Virginia Department of Transportation, Division of
Highways. The 20% match to this grant is provided by the
Monongalia County Parks and Trails Levy and donations to the Mon
River Trails Conservancy.
Rail-Trail Things to come
1) The leaf blowing machine will return in December to blow
leaves off of rail-trail.
2) Work continues on upgrading the drainage and surface on
the Mon River Rail-Trail from mile 24 (Opekiska) to mile 29
(Pricketts Fort State Park). The trail will be OPEN but make
sure equipment operator sees you before going through the work
zone.
The railroad bridge was removed to fix drainage in the road
and now is a much longer span. It is located between two curves
and a dip in the road makes it unsafe to have trail users cross
the road.
Happy Fall! Ella
