Opekiska Trailhead
A new formal trailhead is now OPEN at the Opekiska Lock and Dam on the Mon River Rail-Trail. MRTC will hold a celebration at a later date but feel free to use and explore the Mon River Rail-Trail at mile 24. The site has eleven designated parking spots for trail users and compliments the recent improvements by the WVDNR to provide river access near the confluence of White Day Creek and the Monongahela River. The trailhead is there for those wanting to bike, hike, or run on the rail-trail or access the river to fish or paddle. With many habitats in the area, it is a great place for birding and wildlife viewing.
