Officer of the Month Nominations are chosen by review of daily, weekly and monthly District 2 Command staff notes, highlighting significant officer interactions on calls for service. During these reviews, and unsolicited, command staff make note of exceptional police work. At the end of each month command staff decides to select three officer interactions they feel are most worthy of positive recognition. These are the 3 nominations you see each month, being nominated for officer of the month.

Nomination A: Officer Ryan Esquibel and Officer David Arnold
Officer Esquibel and Officer Arnold conducted a subject stop at E Colfax Ave and N Willow St during proactive patrol in the East Colfax corridor, an area known for high levels of violent crime, open‑air drug activity, and auto theft. Prior to the stop, the officers observed the suspect engage in a hand‑to‑hand transaction consistent with narcotics sales involving a known drug user. The suspect was contacted and identified to have two active warrants out of Wheat Ridge and Adams County. The Adams County warrant was for DUI and Possession of a controlled substance. The officers arrested the suspect, and a search incident to arrest revealed a clear plastic baggie containing a white, rock‑like substance consistent with crack cocaine, numerous small baggies commonly used for narcotics distribution, and drug paraphernalia including a rolled dollar bill and metal straw with suspected cocaine residue. Importantly, the Denver District Attorney’s Office accepted the case filing against the suspect for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, further validating the quality of the officers’ observations, investigative work, and evidence recovery.
Nomination B: Officer Alec Olguin and Officer Ricky Hilton
Officer Olguin and Officer Hilton responded to 5000 Blk of N Milwaukee St on a threats call. Upon arrival, they contacted the victim who related that he and the suspect had been in an argument the previous evening over social media posts. When the victim blocked the suspect on social media, the suspect began sending him threatening messages demanding money to ensure they weren’t attacked. Later in the day, the suspect and another party came to the victim’s residence. The suspect was armed with a black handgun. The suspect knocked on the door and told the victim to “step outside” placing the victim in fear for his life. When the victim did not answer the door, the suspect and other party left the location in a vehicle which the victim described to officers. The victim advised officers that the suspect sometimes hangs out at bar downtown. Officer Olguin and Officer Hilton responded to that location and found the vehicle in the alley. Cover officers arrived to assist in attempting to contact anyone in the vehicle which turned out to be unoccupied. Once cleared, officers could see a handgun matching the description of the one given by the suspect in plain sight. As officers were attempting to tow the vehicle, the suspect came out and was safely taken into custody. The DA accepted charges against the suspect for both Felony Menacing and Extortion.
Nomination C: Officer Lindsey Marquez and Officer Mindy Regalado-Velazquez
Officer Lindsey Marquez and Officer Mindy Regalado-Velazquez responded to a business in the 4600 Blk of E 46th Ave, on a report of a subject actively stealing copper electrical wiring from the business. A security guard was monitoring live video surveillance cameras and observed a suspect removing electrical wiring from the business. This area has seen a recent spike in burglaries and thefts related to copper electrical wiring and this business has had 9 reported incidents so far this year. Officer Marquez and Officer Regalado-Velazquez responded quickly and upon arrival, they observed the suspect still cutting electrical wires from the main electrical panel on the east side of the business. The suspect attempted to flee but was quickly taken into custody without incident. The suspect, who was wearing gloves and had a sheet draped over him to conceal his identity, was found to be in possession of burglary tools, cut electrical wiring, suspected Fentanyl powder, and methamphetamine. A clearance query on the suspect revealed that there was an active Attempt to Locate from District Two Investigations for Burglary. The suspect was transported to the DDC and placed on an Investigative Hold for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Felony Criminal Mischief. The case was presented to the Denver District Attorney’s Office by District Two Detective Patrick and all charges were accepted. The quick response and actions taken by Officer Marquez and Officer Regalado-Velazquez resulted in the successful apprehension of a problematic criminal whose crimes were causing serious financial harm to local businesses. Both officers’ attention to detail throughout the investigation should be recognized and was vital to all charges being accepted for filing by the Denver District Attorney’s Office.
