Statement of solidarity with the people of Venezuela following the devastating earthquakes

Friday, 3 July 2026: The Communist Party of Swaziland (CPS) extends its deepest revolutionary condolences to the families of all those who have lost their lives following the devastating earthquakes that have struck the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

As the CPS, we also wish a full and speedy recovery to the thousands who have been injured and express our unwavering solidarity with all those who remain displaced or are still awaiting rescue and medical attention.

This tragic disaster has struck the Venezuelan people at a time when they were already confronting one of the most brutal campaigns of imperialist aggression in modern history. For decades, Venezuela has been subjected to illegal economic sanctions, financial blockades, political destabilisation, sabotage, and direct intervention orchestrated by the imperialist US and its allies. These measures have deliberately weakened the country’s productive capacity, restricted access to medicine, technology and humanitarian resources, and sought to suffocate the Bolivarian Revolution.

The CPS recognises that while earthquakes are natural phenomena, the scale of human suffering is profoundly shaped by political and economic conditions. Imperialist sanctions and aggression have deliberately undermined Venezuela’s ability to strengthen disaster preparedness, maintain infrastructure, and mobilise resources necessary to protect human life. Every obstacle placed before the Venezuelan people by imperialism compounds the suffering caused by this disaster.

We unequivocally condemn the continuing imperialist assault against Venezuela, including the violations of its sovereignty and the attempts to impose regime change through economic warfare, military intimidation and foreign intervention. The Venezuelan people have the inalienable right to determine their own political future free from external interference, coercion and domination.

The CPS calls upon the international working class, communist and workers’ parties, progressive movements, and all anti-imperialist forces to intensify practical solidarity with Venezuela during this difficult period. Humanitarian assistance must be provided without political conditions or imperialist interference. We further demand the immediate and unconditional lifting of all illegal sanctions imposed on Venezuela, which continue to constitute collective punishment against its people.

The courage and resilience demonstrated by the Venezuelan working class, peasants, youth and revolutionary organisations in defending their homeland against imperialism inspires all peoples struggling for national liberation and socialism. We remain confident that the Venezuelan people, strengthened by international solidarity and guided by the principles of revolutionary struggle, will overcome this tragedy as they have resisted every attempt by imperialism to crush their sovereignty.

The CPS stands firmly with the people of Venezuela. Their struggle against imperialism is our struggle. Their defence of sovereignty is the defence of all oppressed nations. In mourning with them, we also reaffirm our unwavering commitment to proletarian internationalism and the worldwide struggle for socialism.

Long live international proletarian solidarity!

Down with imperialism!

Victory to the heroic people of Venezuela!

Forward to socialism!

Issued by the Communist Party of Swaziland.
