Communist Party of Swaziland denounces ‘mercenaries and anarchists’ charge of Mswati’s propaganda minister

6 July 2021

‘Princess’ Sikhanyiso Dlamini, who is minister for press control and censorship for her father, Mswati, Swaziland’s autocratic ruler, has weighed in on the democracy protests, lambasting protestors as mercenaries and anarchists.

For the Communist Party of Swaziland, such remarks would be laughable if they were not so callous and aimed at undermining true aspirations for democracy and freedom.

Over 40 of our young compatriots have been murdered by the regime since the start of the new wave of pro-democracy, anti-dictatorship protests.

Dlamini is deliberately denigrating these heroes of the freedom struggle.

Dlamini has tried to make out that the young people involved in presenting petitions demanding democratic rights were hijacked by mercenaries, some of whom apparently also dressed up as security forces and put up roadblocks.

Dlamini hopes that by spreading lies about the true nature of the pro-democracy protests, she will get the people to drop the ever-growing demand for freedom in Swaziland.

It is a desperate ploy on the part of the illegal regime.

Dlamini and her father Mswati are part of an autocracy that presides over systematic human rights abuses, a policy of deliberate mass impoverishment of the people and a ban on political parties and freedom of information.

Dlamini is supposed to be the minister for information and communications.

Her work includes:

ensuring that the print and broadcast media are gagged and unable to report the true situation in the country,

imposing internet blackouts to prevent news on the democracy protests reaching the outside world, and

using the media as a tool of disinformation about the bloody antics of the police and army as the demands for freedom escalate.

The CPS reiterates the call for widespread solidarity with the pro-democracy forces in Swaziland and those operating in exile, the unbanning of political parties, an end to press censorship, the safe return of exiles, and the holding of free and fair elections.
