Mbabane, Swaziland – The Communist Party of Swaziland expresses grave concerns regarding the recent arrival of over 50 military and police personnel from Taiwan, who have entered the country as an advance team to secure Mr. Lai Ching. This presence, which began at the start of the month, poses a significant threat to the safety and security of the people of Swaziland.

The CPS urges for an immediate assessment of the situation and calls upon the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to closely monitor the withdrawal of these foreign forces. The presence of Taiwanese military and police personnel, along with their equipment, is viewed as a potential destabilizing factor that could exacerbate existing tensions within our nation.

We further appeal to progressive elements within the Swazi military and police forces to collaborate with ‘peacekeeping missions’. It is crucial for those who value democracy and peace to expose any foreign elements that threaten our sovereignty and undermine our struggle for democracy. Incorporating these personnel into our country would be tantamount to allowing mercenary contingents, complicating the ongoing fight for a democratic Swaziland.

The Communist Party of Swaziland stands firm in its commitment to safeguarding the rights and freedoms of our people. We call on all citizens and organizations to unite against external interventions that jeopardize our national integrity and democratic aspirations.
