Do you teach baking in a classroom or community program?  You may be eligible to WIN $1,000! 


Registration Deadline is March, 31st 2014

Each year the Home Baking Association awards outstanding educators in classrooms and communities who engage individuals, families and communities with the many educational benefits baking provides for personal, family or professional development.

Who’s Eligible?
Professionals or adult and youth leaders and volunteers who teach baking skills in:

  • Classrooms (Pre-K, elementary or secondary)
  • Libraries
  • Public or private organizations
  • Community youth programs, out-of-school camps and clubs
  • Families
  • Youth teaching peers or younger ages

What to Enter?
Submit a baking lesson or baking community service program or adult or teen leader skill training. Baking community service program may include “Bake for Family Fun” month, Bake and Take Day, bake sales or community service baking programs.  

 Awards:

Top entry: $1,000 cash and an all-expense paid trip for two to the Home Baking Association Annual Meeting to present a summary of your award-winning project.

Special recognition awards: may be awarded for Best Community Reach, Best Hands-on Baking Activity, Most Creative.

All entries receive complimentary HBA teaching resources.
 
Guidelines and Application:
Read the call for entries to get more specific information about the application process. Entry deadline is March 31, 2014. Application can be found here. Entry form and lesson plan must be included together whether sent by email or mail.


Educator Award 1999 Call For Entries

Share your successful baking program with other educators and you might win $1,000 plus an all-expenses-paid trip for the 2014 Home Baking Association Annual Meeting! The Home Baking Association is offering this award to draw attention to the excellent home-baking education programs across the country. We want to applaud educators who have implemented outstanding interdisciplinary baking-education programs because baking programs play a role in the development of academically and socially well-rounded children.

Who’s Eligible?
All types of educators who actively teach baking are eligible, including:

  • Classroom family and consumer sciences teachers
  • Extension food and nutrition specialists
  • Community after-school program volunteers
  • Home-schooling parents
  • Youth who teach other youth

Online or via mail, your entry must include

    • A concise one-page summary.
    • Criteria sections below.  Please arrange your entry with the summary first, followed by a separate section of supporting information for each of the five judging criteria areas along with any available supporting documents.  For example, if you refer to classroom handouts, include or attach the handouts with the Baking Emphasis/Execution information.  Supporting materials might include measurable objectives, methods of pre-/post-evaluation/testing, clippings, reports, letters from peers and students (no more than five), photos and samples of other important tactical materials.

To help you compose your entry, see a sample lesson plan developed from a previous winners entry.
