President Cyril Ramaphosa mourns lives lost in Ormonde building collapse
02 Mar 2026
President Cyril Ramaphosa offers his deep condolences to the families of reportedly six people who died when a building collapsed in Ormonde, Johannesburg, earlier today, Monday, 02 March 2026.
The President’s thoughts also go out to survivors, some of whom are still trapped in the rubble of the business park premises.
President Ramaphosa expects an inquiry into the collapse will provide answers to the families of the deceased and to survivors and that such an inquiry will help to prevent a recurrence of a tragedy such as this.
The President also appreciates the urgency with which rescue teams are undertaking their urgent tasks.

Statement on the murder of head of state Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
Mbulelo Mandlana, SACP Head of Media, Communications and Information, 2 March 2026
It is with great sadness that we have learned of the assassination of the Head of State of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The murderous acts of the regimes of apartheid Israel and the US towards Iran reflect regimes with no restraint and imperialist agenda with no limits.
As the South African Communist Party (SACP), we condemn this murderous act and regard it as the clearest indication of the immorality of the Israeli and US governments. Other than the fact that the ongoing war on Iran by imperialist Israel and the US is both unprovoked and unjustified, it is our view as the SACP that the targeting of high-ranking government officials, as has been done against Iran, violates all rules of international norms on warfare.
We call on all anti-imperialist forces inside of South Africa and across the world to work together to resist imperialist aggression against Iran and Palestine. We reiterate our solidarity pledge with the peoples of Iran and Palestine.
ISSUED BY THE SOUTH AFRICAN COMMUNIST PARTY
FOUNDED IN 1921 AS THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF SOUTH AFRICA.
