Hi Everyone,

Jerseys have been delivered, so this list will now exist for the
purpose of communicating about training for the AIDS Ride for Life in
September (9/10/11).

If you aren't interested in getting emails about bike rides, you can
follow the directions at the bottom of this email to unsubscribe, or
just let me know and I'll take you off the list. :-)

Rob reminded me last night that I promised to send some links about
training for a century.

There are a lot of nice links I've collected here:
http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/groups_links.asp?gid=1670
(under the username "4A-HEALTHY-BMI")

Two in particular that I recommend are:
http://bicycling.about.com/od/trainingandfitness/a/century.htm

http://www.bicycling.com/training-nutrition/training-fitness/crash-course-century-training

The first one is a 10-week training program. This is something like
what I'd like to see us follow.
The second one is a 4-week program. I am including it so you can see
what a Hail Mary training program looks like.

There are 12 weeks between now and the ride, so if we stick to it we
should be in pretty good shape.

Since I live and work pretty far north I won't be able to join you for
weekday rides. I recommend one per week, at a regular day and time,
Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.
(To give you Monday and Friday to allow your bike muscles to recover
from the weekend ride.)

You guys can join these rides: http://flcycling.org/?page_id=12
Start with the Thursday ride if you're unsure, then graduate to the
Wednesday ride, and eventually you may want to join the Tuesday ride
instead. If you're female you could consider the women's Wednesday
ride with that group. Wear your COC jersey and make them all curious
and jealous! LOL

On weekends once my rotator cuff has sufficiently healed from surgery
(6 weeks ago) I will be able to join you for weekend rides. I'm
hoping this will be soon. In the meantime I will continue my indoor
spinning classes on Tuesday and Thursday. I will probably come down
for the FLCC Sunday rides.

The bike shop in Geneva (where I work) has Saturday morning "women's"
rides that I will probably join to start with, and then I will move
onto their harder core Tuesday and Thursday outdoor rides as I regain
my strength.

Brendan, I know you're in Rochester, which is about 45 min from
Geneva. I might try and come ride with you sometimes, or you're
welcome to come down to Geneva and ride with me - or we can meet in
the middle somewhere. You also have a local cycling club in your
area, that you can hook up with: http://www.rochesterbicyclingclub.com
There is a bike shop near your house that has weekly rides, too:
http://parkavebike.com/articles/rides-races-and-events-pg37.htm Their
Monday night rides look promising. Make sure your long weekend ride
is on Saturday if you do those. Your jersey just went in the mail
today, BTW.

OK, I think that's it for now. Please feel free to use this list to
organize rides, discuss equipment, routes, etc.

Have fun and hope to see you on the road soon!
