Hi Everyone,

The money isn't flowing in as quickly this year as I'd hoped. By now
I'd hoped to have raised all of my share, plus some more.

And I see that only one other person (Siddharth) has actually raised
any money so far.

We have 8 people on our team (http://tinyurl.com/COC-century).
According to the formula below (pasted from the 2011 Event Handbook
http://aidsrideforlife.org/downloads/Event%20Handbook.docx)
we need to raise 8x $300= $2400 - $100 = $2300.

That's $287.50 each.

We need to discuss whether or not to pool funds. We have until August
26 to decide to count our money individually.

If we let the funds pool and only Siddharth and I end up raising any
money, then none of us will get to ride, because we won't have $2300.

If we opt out of pooling the funds, at least those who raised funds
will be able to ride, if they can come up with at least $287.50.

At this point the way it looks, I'm inclined to ask them to opt us out
of pooling the money.

Anyone have any comments or suggestions? Are some of you planning on
just writing a check for $287.50?

ADVANTAGES OF TEAMS
• Many riders form teams with friends, colleagues and for family
members. They train, fundraise and ride together.
• Having a team allows everyone to share their strengths and to offer
something towards the team (designing riding shirts, baking cookies to
sell, tabling at an event).

HOW IT WORKS
• Teams can be made up of 2 or more people
• New this year: For every 5 people on a team, the fundraising
minimum is reduced by $100. If you have 5 people on a team, you would
need to raise 5x$300= $1500-$100=$1400.
• Team funds are automatically pooled. If your team does not want
funds pooled, that request needs to be sent in writing to Kim Conrad
(kco...@stapinc.org) by Friday, August 26, 2011.
• Due to the time needed to determine team minimums, all pooling teams
need to have funds turned in by Friday, September 2, 2011.

Hi Mihir,

Sorry to hear about your knee! :-(

I will count your response as one vote for not pooling our money.

I hope you feel better soon.

Hi Stephanie,

Thanks for the input.

Yeah, I'm OK with waiting a couple more weeks.

We do have to get the request in by the deadline, in writing if we
want to take the not-pooling option. But I wanted to bring it up now
so it wouldn't be a surprise, and to give people time to think about
it.

As long as we have at least 5 cyclists doing the ride, we still get a
discount in the minimum amount we have to raise. I don't think that
amount changes if we pool the money or not, based on what I've read in
the Event Handbook.
