Hi Folks,
It's been a while since
I've had a chance to even look at Social and Informal Learning, but I did
receive this today and thought it may be of interest to you.
I'm in the middle of
informal learning on a daily basis at my new job, I'm learning how to use the
various software systems by asking the guy or gal next to me. I'm learning
about the organization and the various transitions it has gone through over the
last decade and 1/2 (a good percentage of the employees I've met so far have
been with the turning stone for nearly the entire 15+ years, so they are a
wealth of knowledge) over lunch or as part of my getting to know the
other staff. What I have found is the "social networks" are blocked
and I'm not really surprised, but I am disappointed because I really do feel
that a great deal of learning can take place that way. However, one thing
I do and continue to plan on doing is using social networking as a means of
learning for myself and tell those who will listen about the benefits of
utilizing social media, and perhaps what I've discovered that "wouldn't it be
great if we could talk to people about 'xyz' and see what their experiences
are...it could be a cost savings, etc".
Anyway, if you do use
social media at work, how has it helped? If you cannot use it, what would
you like to use it for?
Happy
Learning
Candyce
