Thank you to the ten or so people who attended the webinar last night.
It was quite an experience for me. The lessons that I learned are the
following,
1. Freebinar is way more stable than dimdim. Although I should add
that freebinar is pretty new. Their total user base is presumably
smaller and the load on their server lighter and therefore creating a
more stable server environment.
2. My ISP must have oversold their bandwidth (or IP addresses)
supplied to the apartment block, I am living in. To avoid the after
dinner peak period, in future, I'll set up two different sessions for
each webinar with the following timings,
GMT
0700---------HK(3pm)-----------NewZealand(8pm)-----Turkey(9am)---------------------------[for
Eastern Hemisphere]
2200---------HK(6am)-----------Berlin(11pm)------------California(2pm)-----------------------[for
Western Hemisphere]
The day would probably be a Saturday or Sunday. If you have suggestion
on other timings, I am all ears.
3. Before the webinar, I thought I could watch the presentation
screen and the hablator window, and talk continuously at the same time,
so I could respond to queries raised via hablator in real time. Last
night, reality hit home. I am not one of those guys that can multi-task
to the nth degree. Next time round, I'll probably do away with hablator
and setup Q&A time separately perhaps every 20 minutes.
4. One major problem with the current webinar setup is the time taken
for my presentation screen to travel from Hong Kong to freebinar's
server in Atlanta, US and be further delivered to the participants'
machines, half way around the world. It's a major drag on the
presentation flow, when I have to wait for the participants' screen to
refresh, before I can start describing the content of the new screen.
I'll shoot for the holy grail of setting up a webinar server at my own
machine here in Hong Kong, hopefully, saving half of the trip. But,
that's long way off considering that this poor lonely open source
developer does not have the money to purchase enough bandwidth to
deliver video/audio signal to multiple participants at the same time
during the webinar.
Best Regards,
CK
BTW, any critiques, comments, suggestions, ... on the organisation,
conduct of the webinar, quality of video/audio signal of the webinar,
etc... is more than welcome.
Best Regards,
CK
Hi, Waqas,
Thank you for the feedback.
Indeed, because of time constraint, the presentation concentrated on the admission process. Other features of the Education cluster are listed at,
http://ck-erp.org/drupal/node/3
I am preparing for follow-on webinars to cover the other functionalities of the Education cluster. Regarding the other CK-ERP clusters/modules, I'll probably prepared Moodle courses to cover those areas. Meanwhile, you could visit the various CK-ERP demos to test thing out, or better yet, download the software, and play with the software in your machine.
Best Regards,
CK
